1. Learn to button your suit jacket correctly. Fasten the top button only to give a modern silhouette and allow for easy movement.

2. Get rid of the cross stitch on back of your suit vents – these are just to protect the suit when it’s being made.

3. If you're really looking to impress, add a waistcoat to your outfit. Feel free to leave  the bottom button undone for comfort if needed. Make sure  the cinch on the back of the waist coat is pulled in to sit neatly and support fit.

4. Add ties and smart accessories to take things up a notch.

5. Keep your suit protected in suit bag when not in use.

6. Get your trouser length right. River Island trousers are fitted to show a bit of sock/ankle. We also have leg lengths that are slightly cropped for a shorter leg, or a long leg if you prefer to have it meet your shoes just right.

7. Double up and buy two pairs of trousers to keep them looking new and to extend the longevity of the suit.

8. Show some cuff. To follow traditional smart dressing rules, RI sleeve lengths allow for 1-2cm of cuff to show outside of suit jacket. You're welcome.

9. Check the proportion of your shirt complements the suit you’re wearing. For example, with a slim shirt, wear a slim suit. For a  muscle fit shirt, match with a super skinny suit.
