Looks Are Served With @thelittlemagpie

This spring we're inviting you to take a seat at our table, where looks and laughter are served side by side. It's the simple things in life that make us happy, and we’re *so* ready to reconnect with old, new or soon-to-be friends. Any reason to celebrate, we'll take it.

This week we’re dining with our friend Amy from @thelittlemagpie.

What do you love most about the city you live in?

We’ve not long moved to Manchester so I’m still getting to know it, but so far, the people have all been amazing: so, so friendly. It seems like there’s so much going on, always a new restaurant to try out or gig to head to.

What does food represent to you?

Happiness! I love food. From planning where we’re going to eat when we’re out and about to spending hours discussing dream meals with pals, it all brings joy. The only part I’m not so good at (tragically) is cooking it!

Food can say a lot about someone, what does it say about you?

I always get in a pickle trying to choose my favourite food – it changes by the minute. So I guess this would either say that I’m very fickle or that I’m continuously hungry? Both ring very true.

What’s your favourite meal?

See this is where my fickleness kicks in and I start sweating. The ones that come up most often are a good carbonara, fish tacos, fajitas or a Sunday roast. I’m also physically incapable of refusing a scone… Generally, I’m drawn to really hearty, homely food. Ooh, I’ve just remembered raclette! Everything and anything with cheese is good. You see? One favourite meal is impossible to nail down.

Name your top 3 restaurants where you live?

Of the ones we’ve tried so far, I’d highly recommend Hawksmoor for a fancy meal, Purezza for pizza, Ezra and Gil & Evelyn’s for brunch. Rudy’s, The Sparrows and Pollen have also all come highly recommended.

Can you describe your city and its relationship with food?

It seems like there’s a fantastic and really varied food scene in Manchester, since we’ve moved, we’ve had a million and one recommendations passed on to us which is amazing, the list of places we’d like to try is continually growing!

If you had to choose: brunch, lunch, dinner or cocktails?

Dinner with cocktails! (is that allowed?)

Do you have any favourite memories growing up that revolve around food?

Baking always brings back fun memories of childhood - and intense fights over who got the lion’s share of the leftover mix from the bowl. As does Chinese takeaway paired with Irn Bru floats. A very rare treat that brought a lot of joy!

If you could choose any other city to live in for the cuisine, which one would it be?

Again, this changes daily, but Italy is one I come back to again and again. Pasta for starters and pizza for main? Count me in.
