Melodies Crafted In Denim | Agustina Ruiz

Meet Agustina. She has wanted to be in a band her whole life – and today, she’s the keyboard and keytar player in the instrumental band Los Bitchos. Inspired by her love for the Spice Girls and The Ramones, Agustina is ripping up the rule book without hesitation (in her iconic denim, of course).

How did you come to be the keyboard/keytar player in Los Bitchos?

I used to play in a pan band, where I was a singer, but I quit and moved to London. I became a model for a couple of years, and then I wanted to go back into music. When I first joined the band, I decided I needed to learn an instrument. I asked my friend, a keytar player, to teach me. It was hard to learn and I had to practice a lot. Just 4 weeks later we had our first gig and we only had a few weeks to prepare eight songs: I was practising 24/7.

How did the band start out?

My friend, Sarah started this project by herself, making South American music. I am from South America so obviously I said to her “Oh my god! I want to be in your band!”. And she said yes! We started as almost a joke between the two of us, but then it became a big thing. Since then, two other girls joined and here we are.

Where do you find your inspiration?

The Spice Girls are one inspiration. I was a huge fan. I just loved them. My favourite used to be Baby Spice, but now I think it's Ginger Spice. Then I started listening to The Ramones, and they are a big inspiration.

Your band supports a lot of charities, why is that important to you?

On International Women's Day last year, we thought we could just post to  say, “Happy Women's Day”, or we could make people really care about the women that are in danger.

As a band we want to make a difference and help people that are suffering, and we think the best way to celebrate awareness days is to donate or give something to help those in need. It is super important to us to make a difference with our platform.

We also really want to talk more about mental health and raise awareness, I think that's the next step to try and help more people.
