Meet Fearne: RI's Future Fashion Designer

In case you missed it, this summer we held a t-shirt design competition for our Kidswear collection. So many of our mini RI fans got involved, whipping out their art supplies and letting their creativity flow into their very own t-shirt designs. We received over 200 designs from across the UK (can you believe it!?), making it so hard to choose the winning design. But, when we saw eight-year-old Fearne's design, we knew we had found our winner. Fearne travelled all the way from Glasgow and joined us at RI HQ to meet the team, star in her very own photoshoot and see her winning t-shirt IRL. It was a busy, fun-filled day but we managed to track down our little star for five minutes to ask her a few questions. Here's what she said...

We love your design! How did you come up with the idea?

I don't know! It just popped into my mind! First, I tried to use the logo for River Island. My mum let me use her purse, which was going to be my inspiration. It didn’t turn out how I wanted it though, so I tried something different. I used my favourite colours which are teal, yellow and pink!

What did you use to draw your design?

I used coloured pencils. I usually love drawing with Posca pens, which are paint pens. I take them everywhere with me (but not to school, because I’m not allowed). But this time, I used coloured pencils!

How did you feel seeing it in real life?

I was surprised and so excited. I’m really proud of it and I can't wait to wear it.

What are you most looking forward to about today?

Posing at the photoshoot. I’ve never done one before, but I think it’s going to be really fun.

What do you think you want to do when you grow up?

I want to be a fashion designer. I’ve had that in my mind for ages; ever since I first found out what it was.

What's your favourite thing to draw?

I love a good little doodle; anything that's fun to draw. Like cow print!

Do you draw every day?

Yes! I go to after-school care because my mum goes to work, and we draw a lot there.

You can only pick one: sequins or glitter. Which do you choose?

Glitter! I love wearing something with a bit of sparkle. I’m so happy that my t-shirt has glittery hearts on it.

If you had unlimited pocket money, what's the first thing you'd buy?

I’d buy a lot of clothes, shoes, Roblox and some jewellery!
