Meet the Denim Lover: Simone

At River Island, denim is kind of our thing. Our in-house design team at our London HQ have carefully crafted each style; fitting, refining and perfecting them to create jeans that look and feel amazing on everyone. But it’s the people wearing our jeans that make them really special: including the one and only Simone (aka @simonepowderly). A self-confessed lover of high-waisted jeans and a double denim moment, we snuck her away from set for five minutes so we could find out a little bit more about our denim star.

What jeans are you wearing and what do you like about them?

Today I’m wearing the Slim Straight. I’m normally such a high-rise girl, but I love how these fit me around the bum area. They’re my favourite kind of shade when it comes to denim too, and I love how they feel.

Apart from what you’re wearing right now, what’s one other way you’d style these?

I'm a double denim kind of girl so I'd probably style it that way or just with a racer top, bomber jacket and some trainers. That's kind of my style: just keeping it simple.

What's your favourite thing about wearing jeans?

My favourite thing about wearing jeans is just when you find a really good fit. I spent most of my time during lockdown in my leggings, so to get back into a pair of jeans felt good. They make me feel confident and sexy.

And how many pairs of jeans do you think you currently own?

I just had a clear out recently so now I have about 10. I think that’s reasonable because you’ve got to have all the different rises and different shades for the seasons... You need options!

When you’re wearing denim, are you wearing it day to day or for going out?

Both! Day to day will be like a casual ‘fit. If I'm wearing denim at night, I'm going to wear a leather jacket and a pair of heels. I think that's why I love denim; you can dress it up or dress it down.

And just one final question. What does River Island mean to you?

You know what, it’s quite an endearing thing; I think of my teenage years. But I love the growth of River Island and how I'm still able to shop there now. I'm happy that it catered to me then, and caters to me now.
